Fairycore vs Cottagecore vs Goblincore: How to Tell Them Apart

They are cousins from the same enchanted forest, but fairycore, cottagecore and goblincore each have their own personality. If you have ever wondered which one is you — or which suits a gift — here is a friendly map.

Cottagecore — the cosy one

Cottagecore is warm bread, linen aprons, and a sunny kitchen garden. Its palette is soft and creamy; its mood is comfort, baking, and a slow life in the countryside. Think gingham, wildflowers, and a pale woodland mushroom brooch on a knitted cardigan.

Fairycore — the magical one

Fairycore takes that cottage and fills it with a little more enchantment: fairy lights, butterflies, dreamy pastels, and the sense that something magical is watching from the ferns. It is cottagecore with wings — whimsical, glowy, and a touch otherworldly.

Goblincore — the wild one

Goblincore loves the things others overlook: moss, mud, beetles, snails, and the gnarled, the damp, the delightfully imperfect. Its colours are darker and earthier — bog browns, deep greens, mushroom greys. A woodland forest mushroom brooch or a moody gothic black mushroom feels right at home here.

The one thing they all share

Mushrooms. Whether your heart leans cosy, magical, or wild, a handmade mushroom pin is the piece that ties all three aesthetics together. The only difference is the colour and the mood — and you are allowed to mix all three.
